Recently I rediscovered my old blog Doing the Compossible, which I began in 2007 (before I emigrated, and before I became a published author) and ended in 2010. It was like finding an old coat in the back of a wardrobe that I’d shoved there in a moment of believing the coat to be ugly and useless but which in a brand new era somehow suited me again. So here I am, New Year’s Eve 2022: feeling disconnected from Twitter and Instagram, long-time abandoner of Facebook, prone to being a bit of a hermit, passionate about literature, enjoy connecting to people through writing, and utterly unsure of what 2023 will bring but certain that it will involve books.
