And yes, trying to get my head around the latest news. The rumours of Walliams were years old but I think everyone is in real shock about yesterday's arrest, and not least because it comes so soon after Oliver Phommavanh pleaded guilty to multiple offences. As ever, I'm wondering what this does to their young audience.
Maybe we stop trying to make celebrities out of authors, as well as making authors out of celebrities.
Happy new year! I loved reading this. Especially your thoughts/experience (mostly) leaving social media which is similar to my own. I also popped back on for a day just recently and then quickly scampered off again! Sanity-making and hopefully not career-ending, for sure.
Happy new year, Karys! And thank you. I'm anxious not to let my thoughts about social media comes across as any kind of mission - it obviously works brilliantly for some, and once worked brilliantly for me. I post on Substack Notes and that scratches an itch. I think for years I felt an enormous pressure to stay on top of everything that was happening in the industry, and I thought social media was the only way to do that.
Completely agree! Some authors are very good at social media and it brings them joy, I don't begrudge them that at all! For now, it's just not for me. Like you, it's been a relief to realise that I can still do my job without it! (And obviously I'm still on here...)
Excellent resolutions (and the way you conveyed them lol). So weird reading this about Walliams the day after the Craig Silvey news.
Thanks so much for reading, Sarah.

Good luck with the writing this year, keen for what comes next!
Thanks so much, Ashleigh. And all the best to you for another year of prolific reviewing!
Thank you!
