And can totally relate AT EVERY STAGE of the novel writing process of that desperate urge to seek outside validation - has never gone away for me but I've got much better at, as you say, finding 'other ways to keep going'. Often now that's having kind of adjacent conversations - about the work, the writing process, what I'm finding difficult - without having to share early words. First of your posts I've read - brilliant - can't wait to go back through the archive and read the next! x

And I had no idea back then how much of writing was rewriting; certainly I had no clue that I'm the kind of writer who needs at least three drafts to understand what the hell I'm writing about.
