Sending love to you and everyone who loved Gabrielle. It’s such a shock and such a loss ❤️ The Guy, The Girl is my favourite of her novels too, but as a Beatles fanatic of course I’ll always have a soft spot for Beatle Meets Destiny!
Thanks Michelle. I think a lot of people will work hard to keep Gabrielle's work prominent and celebrate the stories she gave us. I remember finding Beatle Meets Destiny and thinking it was the best title, and then reading it and thinking that the author had to be the coolest chick ever. She was such a cool chick, it turned out! And so many other things.
Beautiful photo of Gabrielle who was just one of the funniest & most interesting people to be around. I was a judge for the VPLA in the year of The Reluctant Hallelujah and I know we had it top 3. She had the ability to bring characters to life and also to make a larger than life narrative feel real and immediate. She was just fun. I knew her mainly as a friend of Kim Kane’s but had the honour of launching The Guy, The Girl, The Artist and His Ex which was brilliant too. What a terrible thing to happen. My thoughts with you Emily and all the people who loved Gab.
Thanks Tony, as you say she was such fun and I'm really trying to remember that as I grieve for her - she was good at living in the moment but I think had become even more brilliant at it in recent years, and it's a great legacy, a gift for everyone who was lucky enough to spend any time in her company. "The Guy, The Girl" as we used to call it, was my favourite of her novels. "My Life As A Hashtag" made me laugh like a drain when I was recovering from the most hideous cold, quite a picture. But everything she wrote was vivid and clever.

"the Crowded House of Australian literature"? That's hilarious!
Isn't it? Sorrow and Bliss made me laugh like a drain, too.
